The British and International Golf Greenkeepers Association (BIGGA) is dedicated to enhancing the professional reputation and well being of golf greenkeepers. The Association provides subsidised learning and development opportunities to its members and promotes itself to the wider golfing and sporting community through its magazine, Greenkeeper International, its website, and Harrogate Week, a five day feast of workshops and seminars combined with the largest indoor trade exhibition of its type in Europe.

Tuesday Night is Fun Night

Harrogate Week has an exciting new event for 2009 in the shape of the the Social Evening on Tuesday, January 20, in the Majestic Hotel.

The evening has something for everyone with casino tables - with chips provided by BIGGA and a prize for the person who gathers the most by the end of the evening - and a huge range of ride on and arcade games. The Bucking Rudolph should prove a particular favourite.

BIGGA has also negotiated a special deal with Black Sheep Brewery for its famed Riggwelter beer to be sold at £2 per pint. Tickets cost £25 - including food - and are available from BIGGA Tel: 01347 833800  or sandra@bigga.co.uk

Caldy wins 2008 BIGGA Environment Award

Caldy Golf Club has become the 2008 winner of the BIGGA Golf Environment Competition, sponsored by Ransomes Jacobsen, Scotts, Syngenta and Golf Monthly
The STRI judges praised the club's all encompassing approach to environmental stewardship which covered a grassland management programme; a water harvesting scheme within the maintenance facility; beekeeping and a potential plan to introduce wind turbines to power the clubhouse and reduce the club's carbon footprint.

TORO Student of the Year Competition 2008

TORO Student of the Year Competition 2008

Matthew Wormald, of Luffenham Heath Golf Club, was announced the winner of the 2008 Toro Student Greenkeeper of the Year Award, following a high standard final at  BIGGA HOUSE. Matthew, 24, came out on top after the eight finalists had been interviewed and completed a report on Aldwark Manor golf course. As winner, Matthew wins an eight week trip to the University of Massachusetts where he will undertake a residential Turf Management Course and have the opportunity to visit the Toro Headquarters and the Turf Industry Show in New Orleans. Runners-up were James Canham, of Gstaad GC, in Switzerland, and Paul Carella, of Bothwell Castle. Pictured are Matthew seated behind him James to the left, Paul to the right with Pete Mansfield, of Lely Toro, in the middle.

Greenkeeper International

Greenkeeper International is the industry leading official publication of the Association. A monthly publication, it contains articles of the work being carried out at golf clubs; technical articles written by recognised experts in their fields, machinery assessments as well as news and views from the Association and industry as a whole.
