Gullane Golf Club is regarded as one of the finest Private Members Clubs in the UK and is very popular all year round with visitors from all over the world. We have 1700 Members, three fantastic golf courses and hosted the ASI Men’s Scottish Open in 2015 and ASI’s Men’s and Ladies Scottish Opens in 2018.
 
 
Job Purpose
 
The successful candidate will assist the Course Manager, and Management Team, to ensure that all 3 courses are prepared for play to the best possible standard. This is a fantastic opportunity for a talented and passionate individual in a similar role to take on a new challenge and to develop their career within an award-winning golf club.
 
The position offers competitive remuneration, excellent staff benefits including the opportunity to play on Gullane’s three fantastic golf courses. The position is full time, working 5 days from 7 as per seasonal rota with a requirement to work one in three weekends.
 
The jobholder will be responsible for carrying out maintenance duties and leading teams during the daily maintenance of the golf course. Work involves a variety of duties to supervise and maintain the golf course, ensuring that it is presented in the best possible condition at all times.
 
 
Key Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Course Manager and Depute Course Manager to ensure that the courses are prepared for play to the best possible standards
  • Cutting all playing surfaces, change holes, setting up golf course for play, preparing bunkers, any spraying that is required; ensuring that the course is presented in the best possible condition to exceed the expectations of members and visitors at all times
  • Construction, aeration and turfing works
  • Understand the Club’s policies on health and safety and to ensure that all duties performed are carried out with full regard to the safety of the Members, visitors and other employees. Work within the health and safety guidelines at all times: COSHH; Risk Assessment and SOP
  • Supervise the efficient and effective operation and safe handling of all machinery and equipment used by greenkeeping staff
  • Supervise the efficient and effective operation and safe handling of all chemicals used by the greenkeeping staff
  • Supervise the use of fungicides and other control measures for the management of disease and/or any unwanted species
  • To recognise the Club’s environmental policies with particular regard to the fact that the Club’s property is partly in a SSSI and a Nature Reserve
  • Supervise work Programmes
  • Set working and time keeping standards for other team members to follow
  • Any other duties, which may from time to time be reasonably allocated
Personal Specification and Qualities:
  • Knowledge of recreational operations and maintenance work involved
  • Knowledge of the methods used in the care and maintenance of golf course and of grass greens
  • Knowledge of the uses and operating methods of the equipment and tools used in golf course maintenance
  • Knowledge of turf diseases and the methods and chemicals used to control them
  • Ability to keep accurate records
  • Ability to motivate and lead a team in all circumstances
  • Possess good interpersonal skills in order to communicate effectively with Members, visitors and other staff
  • Must maintain a positive attitude and have the ability to use their own discretion in all work-related circumstances
Key Skills & Experience:
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a greenkeeping position
  • Must have a successful record of supervising a small team and be able to demonstrate the ability to delegate and monitor effectively
  • SVQ/NVQ 3 in sports turf maintenance or equivalent
  • Spraying certificate qualifications
  • Chainsaw license preferable
  • Must hold a full UK driving license
  • Must be committed to developing their own skills through the BIGGA CPD Programme
  • Experience of dealing successfully with Members and visitors and demonstrating effective customer care
