Deputy Golf Course Manager
Founded in 1895 Bearsted Golf Club is an established private members club situated in the historic Kent village of Bearsted, just 2 miles from the County town of Maidstone. The picturesque 18-hole parkland course sits in the stunning natural surrounds of the North Kent Weald and offers a challenging test of golf to players of all standards.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Golf Course Manager, the Deputy Golf Course Manager will assist in the day to day running of the Club’s estate and the management of the Club’s greenkeeping team.
Responsibilities and duties:

Course condition and presentation
-
Set up of the course for competitions, matches and casual play
-
Assist in planning, organising and instigation of work programs
-
To understand and implement the agreed maintenance plans
-
The implementation of the Club’s health and safety policies and documents to advise any policy/document changes required
-
Assist in the day to day running of the department to maximise efficiency and productivity
-
To cover in the absence of the Course Manager
-
To oversee the on-going daily work activities of the greenkeeping team ensuring they are completed in a safe and efficient manner, adhering to all health and safety practices

To lead, train and motivate staff individually and as a team

To actively participate in the numerous tasks required in the maintenance of the course

To attend meetings in the absence of the Course Manager

To participate and help organise project work such as green, tee and bunker renovations, turfing, seeding, path work and fairway renovations etc

Understand fertiliser and pesticide rates, calibrations, procedures and maintain records
-
Maintain up to date spraying qualifications
-
Understand the maintenance and use of the irrigation system
-
Assist in maintaining accurate up to date company, weather, staff training records and health and safety records

To operate all the golf course equipment
-
To participate and supervise in the maintenance of all golf course operations, soil processing and general maintenance work around the clubhouse and greenkeeping compound
-
Assist in monitoring turf quality, including checking for pests, diseases, soil moisture and thatch levels
-
To motivate and lead the team by example. Taking responsibility of teamwork situations ensuring standards and time scales of work are maintained

To participate on weekend rota
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
-
5 years Greenkeeping experience
-
A level 3 qualification in turf management or equivalent
-
Hold PA1, PA2 & PA6 Spray certificates
-
Proven ability to motivate, lead and train other members of the team

First Aid at Work 1 day (Desirable but not essential)
-
CS30 & 31 Chainsaw certificates (Desirable but not essential)
-
Train the trainer (Desirable but not essential)
-
Play golf to a reasonable level (Desirable but not essential)
