First Assistant Greenkeeper Vacancy
Salary: £32,000 - £35,000 pa (depending on qualifications and experience)
Main Duties:
Sundridge Park Golf Club has superb golfing facilities consisting of two championship courses, a driving range and multiple short game practice areas. Being just 7 miles from the heart of London, the club is the closest 36-hole venue to any major city in the world and offers a fantastic opportunity for greenkeepers to excel.
We are looking to recruit a highly motivated and passionate individual to join our team as First Assistant Greenkeeper. This role will involve supporting the Course Manager (CM) and Deputy Course Manager (DCM) in leading the greenkeeping team, ensuring the highest standards are maintained across the golf course.
The First Assistant Greenkeeper will play a vital role in organising and managing the team’s daily activities, leading by example, and supervising tasks to ensure their effective execution. This role also involves monitoring course maintenance and ensuring that all operations align with the club’s standards and overall goals.
Key Responsibilities:

Assist the CM and DCM in daily operations, addressing issues and unforeseen challenges promptly

Ensure that all golf course management and maintenance activities comply with Health & Safety regulations and the Club's Strategic Plan

Oversee and ensure that maintenance tasks meet departmental Standard Operating Procedures and expected standards while supporting team development

Assist with minor machinery maintenance and ensure that team members complete pre-start checks and use equipment effectively

Safely apply fertilizers, pesticides, and other products in line with Health & Safety policies and industry best practices
General Responsibilities:

Communicate with members, visitors, and staff in a positive, courteous, and professional manner

Maintain a professional appearance in line with company standards

Treat all machinery and club property with respect and keep the work area clean and safe

Comply with all training requirements and company policies

Operational Responsibilities:
-
Lead by example, ensuring that teamwork, work standards, and deadlines are met
-
Carry out assigned golf course maintenance tasks while adhering to Health & Safety standards and equipment hygiene procedures

Assist in the smooth operation of the department to enhance efficiency and productivity
-
Lead, train, and motivate staff, both individually and as a team.

Understand and apply fertilizer/pesticide rates, calibration procedures, and maintain up-to-date spraying qualifications and records.

Maintain accurate records.

Monitor turf quality, identifying pests, diseases, soil moisture, and thatch levels.

Assist with course projects, including aeration, turfing, seeding, and landscaping.

Maintain and improve the condition of greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, and drainage systems.

Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of equipment.

Perform watering duties, including hand watering and basic irrigation maintenance.

Report to work as scheduled, adjusting to seasonal changes and business needs.

Minimum Requirements:
-
5 Years Greenkeeping experience
-
NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Sports Turf Maintenance
-
Knowledge of Health and Safety Regulations
-
PA1, 2 and 6 Spraying Certificates
-
Chainsaw licence
-
Experience in operating and maintaining irrigation systems
-
Applicants must be able to work as part of a large team and individually

Be self-motivated and a team player with the willingness to go ‘the extra mile’

Knowledge of the game of golf
