Golf Course Manager

David Cole, our Director of Agronomy, is currently recruiting a new agronomy team to collaborate closely with the golf course contractors throughout the construction, grow-in, and long-term maintenance phases of the golf courses and grounds.
Golf Course Manager
Reporting to the Director of Agronomy, the Golf Course Manager will be directly involved in all aspects of the development and project management for the new A&M Fife golf courses and grounds.
The Golf Course Manager will be responsible for:
- Working closely with the golf course contractors, the project management team and various consultants monitoring all aspects of the construction phases for the golf courses and grounds
- Directing the planning, scheduling and supervision of the maintenance and improvements of the putting greens, tees, fairways, practice facilities, roughs, bunkers and associated facilities
- Identifying potential problems and providing corrective solutions and recommendations to the Director of Agronomy
- Directing and managing drainage and course improvement projects
- Directing and managing annual seed and turf establishment programmes
- Directing and ensuring adequate cultural practices are applied to all the playing surfaces on the golf course
- Ensuring proper use of pesticide and fertilisers applications and equipment by following an Integrated Pest Management programme
- Ensuring training for safe use of operational equipment and care of mowers and other equipment
- Overseeing the operation and maintenance of the irrigation and pumping systems
- Producing, monitoring and controlling annual operational budgets
- Assisting with the production of annual capital budgets
- Ensuring all record keeping is accurate and kept up to date and all golf course related tasks are recorded
- Ensuring administration such as H&S, training manuals, record keeping, purchasing, and data collation aremaintained in line with current legislation
- Ensuring appraisals and one to one staff meetings are administered and delivered, in accordance with the owners and management’s expectations and objectives.
- Ensuring the Golf course playing conditions are in line with the owners and management’s expectations
- Maintaining good communications with all departments and offer assistance and advice when required
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Agronomy/General Manager/Director of Golf/Company Directors
Applicants should have:
- A consistent history of employment with at least 5 years’ experience at a senior Greenkeeping level
- A professional record in the areas of:
- NVQ level 3 or equivalent in Greenkeeping and sports turf management
- PA1, PA2 and PA6 spraying certificates.
- The game of golf
- Turf-grass management
- Golf course construction and development
- Financial management
- Relationship management
- Project management
- Proficient in IT
- Working knowledge of golf course operations
- Extensive experience managing multiple projects and contractors
- Experience in managing world class golf course playing conditions on a daily basis
- Experience of producing, monitoring and controlling golf course operating budgets
- Extensive team management experience
- Expertise in performance, excellence and high-end training
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Good networking and negotiating skills
- A person with presence and stature, with the skill and ability to influence others
- Experience of working within a similar quality-orientated organisation
- Confidence, and a passion for what they do and not be afraid to talk out
- A drive to stay current with continual professional development through industry conferences, and educational opportunities
