JOB TITLE: Head of Commercial Research
 
WORKING HOURS: Monday to Friday 08:45-17:00 with 1 hour lunch
 
LOCATION: STRI Head office – Bingley
 
 
JOB PURPOSE:
 

This senior leadership role involves overseeing global R&D teams to ensure efficient and profitable service delivery while driving client success and market expansion. The role includes shaping internal R&D strategy and collaborating across the Group to maintain a position at the forefront of innovation.

Supporting team development for mutual success is also a key responsibility. Additionally, the role requires regular consultation with business unit leaders on strategy and planning, and close collaboration with the Research Operations Manager.

Representing the company and building relationships with national and international businesses, regulatory authorities, suppliers, and sub-contractors within the industry is essential. The role also involves handling media relations in collaboration with the Head of Brand, People, and Client Experience.

The role is full-time office-based.

 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
  • Develop and manage business plans and budgets, ensuring financial targets are met
  • Create and implement growth strategies for market expansion
  • Lead the team, ensuring client success and professional development
  • Oversee all R&D activities for clients and internal projects
  • Secure new revenue streams through funding, client, and partnership development
  • Manage risks, contracts, and ensure accurate project pricing
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
  • Commercially focused R&D leader with experience in business unit diversification and development
  • Proven track record in business development and client management
  • Excellent leadership and management skills
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally
  • Degree in a relevant science discipline
  • Experience in R&D and project management within sectors like sports turf, agriculture, or the environment
  • Strong technical competency in a relevant scientific discipline
  • Excellent communication, networking, and relationship-building skills
  • Recruits and retains high-calibre staff
  • Adapts operations to changing priorities and regulations
