Cutting unit set up and sharpening techniques - Sunday

The Bernhard Academy presents this one‑day hands‑on and practical class. You will be introduced to a vast amount of information that you can take away with you, with the opportunity to learn the correct way of setting up your units, depending on site conditions, turf species and time of year.

Understand the principles of your cutting units, take control of your cutting unit maintenance regime, learn the fundamentals of using grinders, get the best out of your mowers and, ultimately, ensure the highest quality of cut year round! Furthermore, gain first‑hand knowledge of how to communicate the importance of all we do in our maintenance facility and the impact it has on the end product to key stakeholders in your business.

This class is being held at the Bernhard Academy at Moortown. Transport to and from the Academy will be provided from Harrogate Convention Centre.

Learning outcomes:

  • Understand the history and timeline of reel mowers
  • The importance of understanding the relationship between the bedknife and cylinder
  • Understand and appreciate both spin and relief grinding
  • The agronomic and economic benefits through quality of cut
  • Correct set‑up, mounting and grinding of a bedknife and cylinder
