The Claret Jug: Open Championship trophy to make appearance at BTME
The British & International Golf Greenkeepers Association has revealed that The Claret Jug will be making an appearance at the BIGGA Turf Management Exhibition (BTME), taking place from 24 to 26 January at the Harrogate Convention Centre.
The world's most famous golf trophy, which is presented to the winner of The Open each year, will be on stage for the Breakfast session in Harrogate Convention Centre's main auditorium, taking place from 8am until 9am on Tuesday 24 January, the opening day of BTME. This event is open to anyone to attend as long as they pre-registered and enter Harrogate Convention Centre via the East Entrance of the show.
The free-to-attend session will provide a behind-the-scenes look at the hosting of The 150th Open at St Andrews. Director of Greenkeeping Sandy Reid will be joined by The R&A's Sustainable Agronomy Team for Championship Venues, Richard Windows and Adam Newton, and Head of Sustainable Agronomy Alistair Beggs. Find out more here.
The group will share their experiences and learnings from the staging of such a momentous event and BIGGA is delighted to reveal that accompanying them on stage will be the trophy that was won by Australian Cam Smith in 2022 and was first awarded to the winner of The Open in 1872.
Following the breakfast session, the Claret Jug will then be available to view on The R&A stand for the remainder of Tuesday. The stand is located in Hall 4, stand 408, located beside the Seminar Theatre, where free education sessions will be taking place throughout BTME.
