How to repair a pitch mark
Repairing pitch marks is as easy as a gentle twist.
It's really important to repair your pitchmarks. Not only does it help other golfers whose game may be interrupted by an ill-placed depression in the turf, but it also helps to maintain the health of the greens.
Equally important is repairing the pitch mark correctly, otherwise you may end up doing more harm than good.
1. Take your ball mark repair tool and insert the prongs into the turf at the edge of the depression. Do not insert the prongs into the pitch mark itself, but at the rim of the depression.
2. Push the edge of the ball mark toward the centre, using your ball mark repair tool in a gentle twisting motion.
Don't use the tool as a lever to push the bottom of the ball mark back up even with the surface as this may tear the roots and kill the grass.
Correct: Use the prongs to push grass at the edge of the depression towards the centre.
Wrong: Use the prongs as levers to push the bottom of the depression upwards.
