Master Greenkeeper 82: Anthony Williams CGCS
In June 2021, Anthony Williams CGCS of TPC Four Seasons Las Colinas became the 82nd BIGGA member to achieve the Master Greenkeeper certification.
I helped pay for my turf degree by teaching Martial Arts for Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Georgia, from 1982-85. I am a 9th degree black belt and was once on the cover of Bayer Golf Advantage Magazine in full dress karate uniform, executing a high kick with the caption ‘Getting a kick out of environmentalism’. I have won over 100 tournaments in traditional martial arts and archery.
I have met many celebrities on the course and I gave Adam Levine from Maroon 5 a ride to the first tee so he could get nine holes in before a concert. He was grateful, asking great questions about the course, and played well.
I have been a part of five televised golf championship events. Between 1986 and 89 I was part of the team for the LPGA Nestle World Championships at Stouffer PineIsle Resort and the 2017 PGA AT&T Byron Nelson Classic at TPC Four Seasons Golf and Sports Club Dallas at Las Colinas.
I am currently serving as president of the North Texas Golf Course Superintendents Association and I was president of the Georgia Golf Course Superintendents Association in 2011 – 10 years and 1,550km apart.
Just before the pandemic I took up hiking, beginning with the 2020 GCSAA/Syngenta Health in Action 5k at the Golf Industry Show in Orlando, Florida. Then I completed many virtual events after the shutdown, including the Texas Distance Challenge (1,310.1km) from El Paso to Texarkana. In 2021, I am doing the Conquerors Challenge virtual walk across the UK from Land’s End to John O’Groats (1,742.9km) in celebration of my BIGGA membership and Master Greenkeeper status. I am on my fourth pair of shoes and have lost 3.5stones (50 pounds). I look forward to actually walking in England in January!
Congratulations Anthony on becoming Master Greenkeeper number 82! More information about the Master Greenkeeper Certificate is available here.
